在程序设计中，也存在一种名为搜索的算法。

搜索在一般意義上是指試圖找到某人或某物的動作。可以區別搜索知道存在的某人或某物，像是組織不良之人或別人存放之物，或某人遺失之物，或失蹤人口，像是走失兒童或犯罪、事故或災難的受害者。
