平原是海拔较低的平坦的广大地区，海拔多在0—500米，一般都在沿海地区。海拔0—200米的叫低平原，200—500米的叫高平原。

最大的平原：亚马孙平原

臺灣主要的平原有濁水溪沖積平原、、嘉南平原、高屏溪沖積平原（屏東平原）、蘭陽溪沖積平原（蘭陽平原）等。
