Scissors are a tool used for cutting thin material like:

Scissors are better than a knife for some uses, like cutting out a newspaper article or a picture. They are also used for cutting hair and nails.

Unlike a knife, scissors have two sharp edges. Most types of scissors are not very sharp. Children's scissors are even less sharp, and are often protected with plastic. These are called "Safety Scissors".

Scissors can also be made to fit left-handed or right-handed. Using scissors made for the wrong hand is very difficult for most people.
