A horse is an animal. They are often used for riding by people. They are also used to do work, for example to pull wagons or plow fields. Police also used them for patrol.
Male horses are known as stallions, and female horses are mares. The general term for a young horse is foal. More specifically the young female horse is a filly, and the male is a colt.
