Boxers shorts are men's underwear. They are shorts with a stretchy band and named after the shorts worn by boxers.

They were first made in the 1930s, but did not begin to be popular until 1947. Currently briefs outsell boxer shorts.

Boxer shorts have flies for peeing (urinating). Boxer shorts may have ways for closing the fly, such as a button or a metal clasp, but almost all boxer shorts do not have a way to close the fly. They are made in colors and patterns. Television displays more men in boxer shorts than in other underwear.

Pros and cons

People who like boxer shorts say they are the best underwear because:
  • The front opening in boxer shorts makes peeing faster
  • They are made in lots of patterns and colors.
  • Boxer shorts keep the testicles cooler; if testicles become too hot their sperm count could be reduced.
  • They are looser and may be more comfortable.

People who do not like boxer shorts say they are bad because:

  • The openings for the legs can show genitals.
  • The genitals may move around a lot.
  • If a person pulls down someone's pants in a joke, the boxer shorts can also get pulled down, exposing the genitals.
  • The penis may appear outside boxer shorts through the front opening. This may be embarassing because other people might see one trying to move the penis back in, or getting an erection, or not having the front opening closed.
