An assassination is when someone well-known is murdered (killed on purpose) by someone else. The person who is doing the killing is called an assassin or murderer.

In most countries, it is forbidden to assassinate people, and there are high penalties for doing that. Some countries even kill you for killing someone.

If someone is killed by accident that is not called assassination.
