Samhljóð nefnast einu nafni þau málhljóð sem eru mynduð á þann hátt að þrengt er að loftstraumnum út um talfærin eða þá að lokað er fyrir hann augnablik. Þau málhljóð sem táknuð eru með bókstöfunum b, d, ð, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, r, s, t, v, þ í íslensku eru samhljóð.
