ICD (ראשי תיבות של International Classification of Diseases) הוא מסמך תקינה של ארגון הבריאות העולמי. המסמך מכיל קטלוג ממוין והיררכי של כל המחלות הידועות, כולל הפרעות נפשיות.

ICD הינו בשימוש נרחב בעולם כולו, ומשמש לסטטיסטיקות ממשלתיות על תחלואה ומוות.

שמו המלא של המסמך: International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems.

הגרסה הנוכחית של הקטלוג היא 10, ומכונה ICD-10. הגרסה פורסמה בשנת 1992 ומאז יצאו עדכונים רבים אך עדין לא יצאה גרסה 11.

המיון ההיררכי של המחלות בנוי בצורה הבאה: הרמה הראשונה של ההיררכיה מכילה 22 קבוצות (פרקים). כל פרק מקבל טווח של שמות מזהים, המורכבים מאות אחת ושתי ספרות. ניקח לדוגמה את פרק מס' 5. שם הפרק הוא '''הפרעות מנטליות והתנהגותיות" והטווח המוקצה לו הוא מ F00 עד F99. בתוך פרק זה יש 11 תתי-קבוצות, המקבלים טווחי משנה בתוך הטווח של קבוצת האם. לדוגמה: תת-קבוצה מס' 4 היא "הפרעות רגשיות" והטווח המוקצה לה הוא F30-F39. הרמה השלישית יכולה להכיל את שם המחלה\הפרעה (לדוגמה F39) או להכיל רמה רביעית, כלומר תתי קבוצות נוספות. דוגמה לכך היא F30 (מאניה המכילה 5 סיווגים שונים של מאניה. במקרה זה מסומנת הרמה הרביעית על ידי נקודה ומספר נוסף, למשל F30.0. (רמה זו הוכרזה לראשונה בגרסה 9, בשנת 1978).

ככל שהמחשוב מתקדם בבתי החולים ברחבי העולם, המשימה של שדרוג ICD הופכת ליקרה מבחינת עלויות המחשוב הכרוכות בהחלפה ובשימור הנתונים שנצברו עד כה בפורמט הישן.

עדכוני גרסאות

ארגון הבריאות העולמי שם לו למטרה, החל מ-1948, לעדכן את הקטלוג בערך כל עשור. בפועל, שודרגו הגרסאות בשנים הבאות:

עדכון המחלות משקף הן התקדמות מדעית, כגון גילוי מחלות חדשות, והן שינוי תרבותי, כגון ביטול ההכרזה על תופעות מסוימות (כגון הומוסקסואליות) שנחשבו להפרעה נפשית, כעל מחלות.
