Venia legendi (Latin: permission to read or to teach), in Germanic university systems, is a credential permitting the holder to teach a particular subject at university. A condition for being granted a venia legendi is obtaining facultas docendi (Latin: teaching ability), which is conferred upon the basis of attaining a Habilitation.
