Userbars - are small rectangular images with a 3D appearance that are designed to be put in an forum signature. Userbars may be animated based on the artist's will. They are often used to show the user's interest, hobby or graphical skills. Their standards are strictly enforced and defined by communities to ensure that they all have a neat appearance when animated or when stacked vertically. However, some have deviated from the exact standard as they use different fonts or alignment. Some have also inserted images which exceed the boundaries of an ordinary userbar, as seen in the "Proud Qantas Supporter" userbar. Regardless of variation, most are not wider than 350 pixels, so they can horizonally fit in with other userbars.

Userbar characteristics

Userbars come in many varieties. Most userbars use this characteristics:

  • 350 pixels in width. Some people use custom width size to fit the userbar to their signature images.

  • A semi-transparent half-ellipse covering the top half of the userbar

  • A diagonal stripe pattern (commonly called a 'scanline' pattern)

  • Animations are allowed, example: "Gamespy" userbar.

  • PNG Format for good quality, GIF for animated
