University Institute of Engineering and Technology is an engineering college in the Panjab University campus offering degree courses in Biotechnology, Computer Science, Electronics, Mechanical, Telecom & Information Technology and Electrical fields.
Then without it's own infrastructure, the institute's classes in the first few days were held in different rooms of the other departments already set up in the campus. The institute finally got its own building (called Aruna Ranjit Chandra Hall) from where it will finally shift to its full-fleged campus in Sector-25 near the university campus.
The institute is well equipped with the infrastructure for computer science engineering. It has seven computer laboratories. One of these was the only college laboratory in the north India in January 2003 comprising of Sun Microsystem computers.
UIET also has three laboratories in its biotechnology department. These labs are equipped with the intruments for experiments in the Animal Cell Culture, Recombinant DNA Technology, Enzyme Engineering and Technology and Industrial Microbiology among other fields of or related to biotechnology.
Spektrum is the institute's wall magazine, started by some students of the first batch.
It was named after the computer society of which Linus Torvalds was a part, during his years at University of Helsinki.
Spektrum has played an important role as a platform for the students to express their creative cerebration and enrich it by each other's ideas. Started as a weekly with stress on technical issues, it is now updated at least every two days with more emphasis on literary articles.
Goonj is the department annual fest. It was first organised in February 2005 and several literary events such as English and Hindi debates and Young Turks, technical events such as Technical paper presentation and cultural events such dance competitions , fashion show, and star night featuring the Indian rock band Euphoria were held. However in the next following year, fashion show and star night were discontinued in accordance with the university directives.Another innovative event by the name of Men at Work was also started that tested the marketing strategies and advertising skills of the students. The students who organised the fest the first time drew ideas from other major College fests in country such as Techfest of IIT Bombay, where some of them attended technical events such as astronomy workshop, and Rendezvous of IIT Delhi.
Quiet is the official department newletter published every 3 months. Its first issue was released in 2005 which was printed in black and white format. However , subsequent issues added colour pages and today it is a full feature , all colour publication.
Although UIET is officially a department of Panjab University, it comprises of several departments imparting education in various technical and engineering fields. The following is the list of departments in UIET:
