uShip, Inc. (founded in 2003) is based in Austin, TX. uShip is an online auction marketplace for shipping. It uses a reverse auction system where users typically list large or awkward items (furniture, freight, cars, boats, etc.). uShip claims to have 25,000 registered service providers (as of August 2006), most of whom appear to be small movers, goods transporters, freight carriers, auto/boat haulers, etc.

uShip says that their reverse auction model helps to reduce shipping costs (uShip claims 60% savings) because movers competitively bid against each other and are often filling empty space in their trucks. uShip also claims that their feedback rating system, which is similar to that of eBay, builds trust and credibility between service providers and their customers.
