Trainers are working in many different areas, their main role is to educate people around certain topics. You can differenciate internal and external trainers.

Many times assigned to the HR field in a company, they fulfill the most frequent internal needs for education of the workers and management in a company.

In certain cases companies have to ask the help of external trainers, especially if the needed knowledge is not available within the own trainers pool or if the company is too small to have internal trainers. Many companies exist which have specialized on certain topics, e.g. change management, leadership, diversity management, etc.

Many times people confuse the term facilitator and trainer. As opposed to the facilitator the trainer does take an active role and transmits mainly knowledge.
