Theodisca is a medieval term from Northern Europe used for the common people and their language. It is derived from Germanic *Þeudiskaz. It has survived in the English word Dutch, the German word Deutsch, the Dutch words Diets and Duits, the Icelandic word þjóð, meaning people or nation and the modern Italian word tedesco, meaning "German".
