The temporalis muscle is one of the muscles of mastication.

The muscle can be felt if one places their fingers on their temples (on the sides of their head, just behind the eyebrows), while clenching and unclenching their teeth.

The temporalis muscle is covered by the temporal aponeurosis which has its origin in the superior temporalis line and inserts in the zygomatic bone. This aponeurosis is composed of one superficial layer and one deep layer and between them there is a space filled up with fat tissue.
