Tashkil (تشكيل) is the Arabic word for vocalization. It refers to vocalization of a text, such as the Qur'an, but also the system of diacritical marks (Harakat) surrounding written Arabic consonants, in order to facilitate pronunciation (typically noting which vowel should accompany it).
