Tölt is a four-beat gait of horses. It is a type of fast walking (where at least one hoof is touching the ground at all times) with a four-beat gait (because each hoof touches the ground at a separate time). A relatively small number of breeds tölt. Most famous is the Icelandic horse, although its cousins in the Faroe Islands and Norway also tölt. The Tennessee Walker, Saddlebred, the Peruvian Paso, the Paso Fino and the Missouri Foxtrotter can also tölt. Some horses exhibit an irregular four-beat tölt which is more akin to the pace or trot and is called a "pacey tölt" or a "trotty tölt".
