A starship class is the basic design of a starship. In most navies, a ship's class (by tradition) is named after its first ship, known as the lead or class ship.

Classes of starships, like their naval counterparts, are used to save effort and money - it's considerably easier and cheaper to build multiple units to the same design than to develop a unique plan for every individual starship. It also simplifies maintenance, training, and procurement of spares (not inconsiderable factors for any service).

• The Pillar of Autumn crashlanded on Halo, and the Master Chief and Cortana used its fusion engines to blow up Halo.

Unknown class

• The In Amber Clad was boarded and captured by The Flood, who, being rather unused to technology, crash-landed it. Not much else is known about the In Amber Clad at this time.
