Spatial analysis is the process of analysing model results or geographical data. Spatial analysis can be used for evaluating, estimating, predicting, interpreting, and understanding geographical information. Raster analysis is one method of spatial analysis. Spatial analysis has expanded into many fields including population analysis, natural disaster analysis, and urban analysis.

History of Spatial Analysis


In one of its first recorded uses, spatial analysis was used by John Snow in his work with the 1854 cholera outbreak in London.
