In physics, there are many experiments which consist of shining light upon thin slits, and observing the wave behaviour of light past these slits:

  • Single-slit experiments which lead to diffraction.
  • Double-slit experiments which lead to interference, a form of diffraction.
  • Multiple-slit experiments which lead to complex patterns that is usually referred to as diffraction.
