The word skavoovie is a Jamaican greeting.

The term is prevalent in contemporary ska culture and can take on any number of meetings, though it is often used as a word with no meaning, or to express strong, pleasant emotion.

Skavoovie is one of the two most popular theories behind the origin of the name ska. The other theory says that in the early days of the new musical style, a band leader trying to explain to his band how to play this new style instructed them that they had to make the ^* strings go "ska,ska,ska" in imitation of the rapid and punctuated off-beat.
