A power tool is a tool powered by an electric motor. The addition of the motor, usually electric but posibly pneumatic or hydraulic, reduces the work required by the operator, and sometimes makes it possible for the operator to do things that are difficult or impossible to do by hand.
Common power tools include the drill, various types of saws, the router, the electric sander, and the lathe. All of these tools have manual equivalents (see hand tool).
The term power tool is also used in a more general sense, meaning a technique for greatly simplifying a complex or difficult task.
Power tools include:
Manufacturing | Woodworking hand-held power tools | Woodworking machines | Metalworking hand tools
