The persulfate ion, SO52−, is a polyatomic ion. SO52− is also an oxoanion, which refers to a negative ion which contains one or more oxygen atoms. Persulfates, compounds containing the persulfate ion, are salts of Persulfuric acid; persulfates are unstable and readily decompose.
