In weapons, penetration refers to the ability of the projectile to pierce through the target's armor and into the target itself. For firearms and bullets, higher penetration means that the weapon is more likely to pierce effective body armor. Penetration may be increased through the use of an armor piercing round, or a special shell type. Bombs designed to increase penetration into the earth are known as bunker busters.
