A party hat is generally a playful conical hat made with a rolled up piece of thin cardboard, usually with designs printed on the outside and a long string of elastic going from one side of the cone's bottom to another to secure the cone to the person's head. Its name originates with the use; party hats are generally seen at birthday parties. Party hats can also be seen at New Year celebrations, in the traditional form and with some variations (such as a funny, colored top hat or a hat made out of balloons). Other variations of the party hat include the beer hat and Mickey Mouse ears.

Party hats and origami

Party hats in video games

In the MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role-playing game) RuneScape, a party hat is an expensive (see RuneScape Economy) and sought-after due to the fact they were only available by a holiday drop in December of 2001. A player had to open a Christmas Cracker to obtain a party hat within the game.
