Paroxysm can have several meanings.
- a sudden outburst of a violent emotion or action (laughter, rage)
- a convulsion, spasm, cramp, sudden attack of pain
- an increase of symptoms or periodic attacks of a disease (such as malaria, asthma, migraine, trigeminal neuralgia and epilepsy.)
