In professional wrestling, the term over means making a wrestler look good. Example: "Tonight Chris Jericho is going over and Kane is going under." This means that Jericho is to win his match that night and the fans have a pop towards him, while Kane is to lose his match and is rousing up the crowd. When a wrestler makes his opponent look good, for example by taking spectacular bumps, he is said to put over his opponent.

To be over also means being popular with the fans. This term is not limited to fan favorites, or babyfaces, but can refer to heels who are good at getting a negative crowd reaction as well; to be "over" means that the crowd cares about you, which is the most important thing in pro wrestling. In his heyday, The Rock was massively over with the WWE fans, who cheered loudly the moment they heard his entrance music. During that era Triple H, The Rock's greatest adversary, was booed loudly as he was able to generate huge amounts of heat from the crowd meaning that he was over as a heel.
