In American football, the offensive tackle is a part of the offensive line. There is an offensive tackle on each side of the center, designated as the left and right tackles. They are lined up on the line of scrimmage, to the outside of the guards and to the inside of any tight ends that might be in the play. Their job is to block the onrushing defensive line and open up holes for a running back.
