Myōga (茗荷) or myoga ginger (Zingiber mioga, Zingiberaceae) is a Japanese ginger, relatively hardy for that genus. It is grown, not for the rhizome, but for the flavorful shoots and for the flower buds.

It is a perennial, woodland plant. In order to grow it needs 30-50% shade. Myoga is a new crop in New Zealand.

While some constituents of myoga are cytotoxic, others have shown promise for potentially anti-carcinogenic properties. *
