Mycobacterium avium complex refers to infection by three organisms of bacteria within the Mycobacterium genus, Mycobacterium avium, Mycobacterium intracellulare, and Mycobacterium avium sub paratuberculosis (MAP).

MAC has been on the rise since the advent of AIDS because these patients become susceptible to such infections.

MAC is generally treated by anti-tuberculosis drugs such as rifabutin and antibiotics such as clarithromycin
