Mutawatir is an Arabic word meaning "agreed upon." It is often used as an Islamic term to describe hadiths. A hadith is said to be mutawatir if it was narrated by many witnesses through different narration chains (isnads) leading back to Muhammad. This essentially is an assurance that the hadith is sahih and not Mawdo (a forgery).

Both the Hadith of the pond of Khumm and the Hadith of the two weighty things are mutawatir.

In contrast, an ahahd hadith has only a single narrator.
