A mosquito net offers important protection against mosquitos, flies, and other insects. Its fine, see-through mesh construction stops many insects from disturbing the person using the net. The net is small enough to stop these insects, but does not in any way cut off the person's capabilities to take in oxygen. Often you will see mosquito nets attached to beds in areas where there are dangerous insects that could harm someone who is sleeping at night. A person can avoid insects by being under a mosquito net during sleep; this would prove very beneficial to those in places where malaria and other insect born diseases are common. In practice however, mosquito nets can be rendered ineffective if holes large enough for mosquitos to enter are present in the net. Ironically, one could get bitten far more often if this occurs, as the mosquitos will be able to enter inside the net, but can't get out.
