Miles per hour is a unit of speed, expressing the number of international miles covered per hour. The common abbreviation in everyday use in the United States and elsewhere is mph, although mi/h is sometimes used in technical publications . The preferred SI unit for velocity is m·s-1, although km/h is often used as an indication of speed.
