A loudspeaker driver that produces the frequency range from approximately 300–5000 hertz is known as a mid-range. Also called, less commonly, a squawker.

Midrange drivers are usually cone type or dome type. The diaphragm of a cone speaker is a truncated cone, with the voice coil surrounding the narrow end and the suspension at the wide end. A dome is a section of a sphere with both the suspension and voice coil located at the outer edge of the dome.
