The medial collateral ligament (or MCL) is one of the four major ligaments of the knee.

In older literature, it is known as the tibial collateral ligament.

Injury


The MCL is the most commonly injured knee ligament. These injuries include tears, partial tears and overuse injury. Its integrity is tested by applying valgus stress.
