libdca is a GPL'd software library that can decode the DTS Coherent Acoustics audio format, developed by Gildas Bazin. It comes with a small proof-of-concept program dtsdec.
libdca was first published in February 2004 and was distributed by the VideoLAN project, which included it in their VLC media player. Many other open source media players used it as well.
In October 2004, VideoLAN stopped its public distribution and removed it because of DTS patent infringement claims.
