The kickstand allows the bicycle to be held upright without the aid of a person. The kickstand is usually a piece of metal that folds down from the frame and makes contact with the ground. It is generally located in the middle of the bike or on the rear. A variant to this kickstand is a type that goes on the rear of the bike and requires the rear wheel to be lifted off the ground.
