Interleukin-8 (IL-8) is a chemokine produced by macrophages and other cell types such as epithelial cells. IL-8 attracts neutrophils at the site of inflammation. If a pregnant mother has high level of interleukin-8 it has been found higher risk of getting schizophrenia in the offspring. High level of Interleukin 8 has been shown to get lesser chance of good treatment response of antipsychotic medication in schizophrenia. (Zhang XY,2004)
