Interbreeding, or inter-breeding is breeding between different, albeit closely-related species, or between subspecies. The result of interbreeding is a hybrid individual or population. Interbreeding between species results in inter-species hybrids, which are per definition infertile and cannot establish a population of their own, while interbreeding between subspecies results in intra-species hybrids.
