A fundraiser is an event or function where participants gather for the purpose of fundraising. The term also refers to a person who organizes such events or whose occupation involves fundraising.

During political campaigns, or for high society charity events, a fundraising event may comprise a dinner with an artificially high attendance price and/or the presence of guest speakers or celebrities.

The term fundraiser can also refer to a person who organizes a fundraising event or otherwise collects money for a non-profit or political organization.

There are several typical kinds of fundraiser events.

• meals & entertainment (e.g. campaign dinner)
• sales drive (e.g. World's Finest Chocolate sales)
• capital campaign (e.g. campaign to finance new building)
• membership campaign (format of low dollars - high participation to bring in new donors)
• events (e.g. charity golf tournaments)
• charity auctions (e.g. silent auctions of donated items, usually accompanying a charity event such as a black-tie dinner)
