Ependymoma are tumors arising from the inner lining of the cerebral ventricles (= intracranial) and the remnants of the central canal in the spinal cord. Intracranial ependymomas are usually seen in children. Spinal ependymomas arise more often in adults. The common location of intracranial ependymomas is the fourth ventricle.
Syringomyelia can be caused by an ependymona. Ependymomas are also seen with Neurofibromatosis Type II.
