Direct pressure is a procedure in first aid for reducing blood loss from a wound by applying pressure to the injury. It is typically referred to in the acronym RED, representing the last letter. Applying direct pressure to a wound may require the removal of clothing in order to properly apply pressure. Direct pressure in most cases involves human force in order to successfully reduce blood flow.
