In mountaineering, a chockstone, or chock for short, is a geometrically shaped metal block with a heavy gauge wire looped through it. It is used as protection on traditional routes, just as a cam is used. The chock is wedged in a crack, a quickdraw is clipped to the wire loop, and a rope is clipped through the other end of the quickdraw, providing an anchor point.
