A casement can be one of several architectural features:

• A casement window has a hinge on the side of the window sash so the window can open outward (usually) or inward. Derived from "case" meaning an enclosure to hold something.

• In military use, a recessed area or chamber in the walls of a fortification. Also appears as casemate.
