Chemical infobox
Calcium sulfide (CaS), also known as calcium monosulfide, hepar calcies, and sulfurated lime, is a white octahedral crystal used in the manufacturing of phosphors, and as an insecticide and fungicide. It is also being studied as a reactant in a process that would recycle gypsum, a product of coal processing that would otherwise be disposed of in landfills.

Reactivity with water

Calcium sulfide is stable when it is not in contact with water, but when in an aqueous solution it forms two chemicals: Ca(HS)2and Ca(OH)2.

2CaS+2H_2O = Ca(HS)_2+Ca(OH)_2
