A bowl game is a post-season college football game, typically at the Division I-A level. The first bowl game was played between Michigan and Stanford in the 1902 Rose Bowl (Michigan won 49-0). The term originates from the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, California bowl-shaped stadium in which it was first played.
