Blocking may refer to:

In telecommunications:

  • The formatting of data into blocks for purposes of transmission, storage, checking, or other functions, see block size and block storage
  • Denying access to, or use of, a facility or system
  • The failure of a telecommunications network to meet a user service demand, because of the lack of an available communications path

In theatre:

  • Blocking (improv), in improvisation, an actor who does not accept the dramatic world set up by other actors
  • Blocking (stage), the movement and positioning of actors on the stage

Blocking may also refer to:

  • Blocking (film), the movement and positioning of the camera and actors in a scene
  • Blocking (knitting), the process of stretching a knitted garmet into shape while wet or using steam
  • Blocking (American football), the legal interference with another player's motion
  • Blocking (statistics), in the design of experiments, the arranging of experimental units in groups (blocks) which are similar to one another
  • In combat, a synonym for defense, thus meaning "defending from attacks by an opponent". Blocking with a weapon is called parrying
