Analog video is a term that can refer to any of three analog television (picture only) transmissions signals. These three signal types include: composite video, s-video, and component video. With each of these signals, only the visual element of video is transmitted, including the luminance (brightness) and chrominance (color) of the image.
Analog video is used in both consumer and professional applications. However, higher quality signal formats have been adopted, including serial digital interface (SDI), Firewire (IEEE1394), and the various other signals for carrying HDTV.
