An ampoule (also called an ampule) is a small glass vial which is hermetically sealed by melting the thin top (usually with a blowtorch flame) after filling, and is most commonly used to contain hypodermic injection solutions (eg. for pharmaceuticals).

An ampoule is usually designed with a score mark round the neck so the sealed vial top may be snapped off cleanly by hand. After opening the ampoule, the solution is filtered to remove any glass fragments which may have fallen in the solution when the ampoule was opened.
