Wikiversity is a proposal to become a Wikimedia Foundation project. Currently, Wikiversity is hosted at Wikibooks.

Wikiversity is under development as a free, open learning environment and research community. In 2005, a formal proposal to start Wikiversity as an independent project was voted on. The Wikiversity project was discussed at the November 2005 Wikimedia Board meeting. The Board requested that some Talk:Wikiversity#Current status be made before the project starts. A Wikiversity/Modified project proposal now exists and it will be submitted to the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees for their evaluation.

Wikiversity currently has portals in 17 different languages.
